Waterfall Hike

A Good Ole Hike Date at Hidden Falls Regional Park

The Hidden Falls hike in Auburn is a perfect hike. It’s really just a relaxing 1.5 mile walk to a 30 ft waterfall, though there are more trails to explore if you want a longer hike. The area is rich with Gold Rush-era history that is described through panels on trail. Throw in spots where you can access the small river that runs through the park and you basically have an adventure just waiting for you.

It’s located in the rolling hills between Auburn and Ophir, so even the ride up there is pretty.

Cocktails on the River

Enjoy tasty cocktails and fine dining on a historic date at the Pilothouse on the Delta King

Looking for a unique date night spot? The Pilothouse is one of Old Town's best treasures for a couple. Aboard the historic Delta King is an intimate restaurant and bar that serves classy cocktails and great food. It's got a little bit of that Titanic vibe - the good part, the falling-in-love part - since you get to sit atop of the Sacramento River. Throw in the Tower Bridge and a sunset and you are dabbling in a whole bunch of romantic scenery to go with your cider brined pork chop.

A Romantic Dinner Date Night

Enjoy a romantic evening at Bandera

It's not often that we suggest a restaurant that is not strictly Sacramento-based, but Bandera in Fair Oaks is an exception. The reason is, it can be difficult to find a truly romantic restaurant. Bandera, though, they got it.

If you want something a little more informal take a seat at the bar and try one of their signature cocktails. But, if you want to get the full romanticness that Bandera can provide, aim for getting a booth around the outside of the restaurant and your dinner will feel quite intimate in the dimly-lit light. Then prepare yourself for a delicious meal.

Ride a Carriage Date

Experience the past on a Horse Drawn Carriage

You've probably seen the horse-drawn carriages in Old Town Sacramento and Downtown and thought, "That looks fun. I want to do that." Only thing, you probably never followed up on it. Well, the time is now. It's fun, it's cute, and will make for a unique date, whether it's just a piece of the date or the entire outing.

Top Hand Ranch has several different options for carriage rides in Sacramento. Their goal: to provide a little touch of the past in Sacramento's most historic and scenic areas.

Top Hand Ranch has three main rides to choose from that will show you different areas of Sacramento from the perspective of the backseat of a carriage.

The first option, a ride through Old Town Sacramento. These rides are the shortest of their options at 10 to 15 minutes but can be a fun addition to an outing in Old Town. Clop, clop, clop amongst Old Town's Saloonish architecture! This ride is $15 per carriage (not per person).

The second option: the Promenade and Park ride. Take a ride along the Sacramento River and the Tower Bridge. You can add in the option of being taken by the Crocker Art Museum to see its beautiful Victorian architecture. These options range from $30-$40 per carriage.

The third option and the longest: the Capitol. The Top Hand Ranch will treat you to a ride through Capitol Park's 40 acres and around the Capitol and the many monuments and memorial pieces the park is known for. This ride ranges from 50 minutes to one hour. The cost for this ride is $50 per carriage.

Make sure to call in advance to reserve a time and day with Top Hand Ranch for your carriage ride using the phone number specified in The Specifics below.

Getting a juicy burger for date might not be the most inventive of date ideas, but sometimes it just makes for the perfect, simple date.

To try mixing it up, try out of these 8 burger joints and restaurants found within Sacramento. Thrillist Food Writer, Kevin Alexander, has been on a yearlong mission to find America's best cheeseburger and continued through Sacramento on his quest. The music ranges from little bit country, a little bit rock 'n roll with several tribute performances to favorites such as John Mellencamp, Elton John, and Journey.

Perry Creek Date

Go Wine Tasting at the Perry Creek Winery

The Perry Creek Winery is a short 30 minute drive from Folsom and about an hour from Sacramento. Located in Fair Play, it's off the beaten path in comparison to many of the wineries that are found in Placerville, but that just means it's a bit more personal.

A trip to Perry Wine means a pleasant drive through the foothills underneath tall pine trees and through winding roads - the perfect combination to pull you out of your daily routine to let you focus on the task at hand: a date with your sweetheart. The winery is a short drive from the main road of Perry Creek Road and is far enough to make the winery feel intimate and hidden. The tasting room and front patio sit among large pine trees, so that you can enjoy a platter of cheeses, dried meats and other foods perfect for pairing with one of Perry Creek's tasty wines with the natural beauty of Fair Play to entertain you.

Enjoying a date at the Perry Creek Winery on the patio and sipping delicious wine and eating from their tasty platter assortment.

Perry Creek's Favorite Wines

Perry Creek offers a full selection of wines but is known best for their reserve Altitude wines and rare Cobra wines. The Altitude wines are raised at an average of 2400 feet and combine the notable fruitiness of high mountains with oak integration. Meanwhile, the Cobra series is a selection of Perry Creek's best fruit - fruit hung for extended periods of time to deeply develop and ripen to produce the Cobra's complex and bold flavors. Plus, the Cobra series is extra rare, only producing 300 cases per year.

Jenkinson Hike

Take an 8-mile hike around Jenkinson Lake

Looking for moderately long hike that isn't going to kill you? Jenkinson Lake up in Sly Park has a great 8 mile hike that takes you around the lake. While the length might seem long for some, the hike itself is not very difficult. It's reasonably flat, well shaded, and the dirt path is nice on the joints.

A View of the Lake from the Northern Side

Midway through the hike on the northeast side of the lake, you will find a manmade waterfall which is called the Park Creek Waterfall. The waterfall is about 3 miles from the entrance of the park (which is the easiest place to park), and makes a great place to have a picnic. So, make sure to pack a small lunch, so that you can take a break and celebrate the beauty of the waterfall!

The Park Creek Waterfall

Past the waterfall, you will continue on walking down the eastern side. The only unfortunate part of the hike is once you reach the end of the trail on the southeastern side, you will have to walk alongside Mormon Emigrant Trail service road. The plus side, though, is that you get to walk across the reservoir damn on your way back to the entrance where you parked.

So, for parking: When you are coming towards the lake on Sly Park Road, you will turn left onto Lakewood Drive. This is the entrance to the lake - this will be very obvious. It costs $15 to park for the day. The trail is simple to find - it follows the shoreline along the majority of the lake - just not the southeastern side.

Two Kayakers at Jenkinson Lake

Extra Tips:

Afterward, you will probably be hungry and the most immediate answer to your cravings will be the Sly Park Resort which happens to be right across the street from the entrance to the fairgrounds. They serve burgers, fries, and other foods you might find at a bar and grill. After your 8 mile hike, there will be nothing better than a beer and a burger (assuming you are not a vegetarian and you enjoy beer).

A Funky Pedicab Date

Take a Pedicab Through the Heart of Sacramento

If a horse carriage ride isn't really your date night style, but you still feel the desire for a leisurely ride through Downtown, Midtown or Old Town Sacramento to see the sights, feel the warm summer air against your face (and without having to sweat for it), you might have to try a pedicab ride!

You've probably seen them driving around town - they are lit with colorful LED lights and are playing fun funky music (funky music at least in our experience). Chances are, it was probably full so you couldn't hop in yourself at that moment.

How to Arrange Your Very Own Pedicab Date

We met Dennis, one of Sacramento's pedicab tax drivers and had to share his information so that you could arrange a pedicab yourself. So, for your next date night in Sacramento, why not make it a night to take a pedicab through the heart of Sacramento! Arranging this event with Dennis is up to you, but consider starting in Midtown, taking a ride through Downtown, all the way to Old Town Sacramento for a ride along the riverfront, and then going through Capitol Park on the way back!

Arrange a pedicab to pick you up on your next date in Sacramento!

Pedicab Prices, Times, and Hours

  • A complete ride from Midtown to Oldtown and back takes about an hour and costs $80
  • For shorter rides, such as from Midtown to Downtown or Capitol Park, expect about $25
  • Dennis is available most Friday and Saturday nights, however he may make arrangements for other nights. You will need to inquire yourself. Contact Details Below

So, for your next date night out in Sacramento, take a pedicab ride! Whether it's before or after getting dinner, going dancing, or seeing a show, spice up the night and go for a ride!
